Committees & Commissions


All persons on the contact list, other than Board members, are appointed by the Board and must be township residents. In addition the Board appoints members of the following commission and committees all of whom must be township residents with the exception of the planning commission which allows one non-township resident.

Planning Commission

(7 members, 3 year terms, meets monthly)
Major responsibilities include developing and updating: zoning ordinance, master plan, zoning map, and reviewing all site plans/special use permits/zoning changes and making recommendations to the township board.

The planning commission meets the first Monday of each month (unless otherwise posted) from 7-9 PM at the Homer Township Hall.
All meetings are open to the public.

Cemetary Committee
Responsible for setting policies for the township cemetery, identifying improvements needed and future land needs.

Zoning Board of Appeals
Authorized to grant non-use variances from the zoning ordinance and upon request may interpret questionable provisions of the zoning ordinance.

Board of Review
Listens to resident appeals of their property assessments.

Compensation Committee
(5 members, 5 year terms, meet in odd numbered years)
Proposes to the board salaries for elected officials.

Other committees may be formed by the Board as needed.
