If you own and occupy your home as your principal residence prior to May 1, 2009, you may be entitled to an exempt from local school operating taxes. The exemption appears on the December tax bill. If you believe you should be at 100% and it is 0% or you no longer own and occupy the property as your primary residence, please contact me as early as possible. The December Board of Review meets Tues. following the second Mon. in December. This is the last chance for correction.

Update on the reappraisal:   the site visits have gone very well and are near completion.  The data collected is being used to calculate the true cash value of the properties. This is done by applying the State Tax Commission cost manual to the square footage of the home along with the vacant land sales data in order to derive the 2010 assessments. The assessment change notices will be mailed the end of February. To calculate your true cash value multiply the state equalized value times two. If you have any questions concerning your tax bill or assessment change notice, contact me.

Planning Commission

Sandra Simmons

Since January, the planning commission has held 9 monthly meetings, reviewed 5 site plans, 2 special use permits, and held 2 public hearings on 2 of the site plans and special use permits.  Site plan reviews included J-Jo’s, Homer United Methodist Church , KJP, Pinecrest and

1205 E. Isabella Rd.   Several of these reviews required more than one meeting

A portion of each meeting, as time allows, is allocated to review and update the current zoning ordinance and several general township ordinances.  The proposed revisions will be scheduled for a public hearing the first part of next year.  Your input is always appreciated by attending the commission meetings or contacting any commission member.
