Township History
Homer Township was established in 1862.
The logo for the township indicates the three rivers in the township, the pine trees and stumps from the logging days, and the arrows and Indian head dress for the Indians of this area.
Homer Township is in the Saginaw Valley. We are the first township west of the city of Midland in Midland County, home of the Dow Chemical Company. Homer Township is 4 miles wide and 6 miles long. We are narrow because we adjoin the meridian.
This area began as a logging area and then became a farming area. We now only have one full time farming family in the township, however we have many part time farmers in the township.
Our Cemetery recieved Michigan Historical site status in 1991. The cemetery was established in about 1862 however we believe that there may have been some burials before that date. The cemetery lays within a 160 acre parcel that was land granted to Anthony Barton by President Franklin Pierce.
